Location: - Our backup arrays are located at 25 Broadway, Lower Manhattan, in a locked cage, in the Telehouse Broadway data center in New York City. We have been at this location for 4yrs.
Our Equipment - Our total available storage space counting all arrays is 15 Terabytes. Without any special configuration, 5.5TB is the largest contiguous space we allow. However, we can also use multiple external storage systems in a single array, so potentially there is no limit. Our storage arrays use multiple hard drives in a redundant RAID 5 array, so to the operating system, the storage array looks like one big drive. The backup arrays are connected via 100Mbps FastE connections. Based on general experience, with encryption and compression overhead, you shouldn't have a problem pushing 40-50Mbps to our backup arrays in a single session. The backup servers are connected to the internet via a gigabit ethernet link that is currently at less than 20% utilization.
Availability - We generally try to keep the capacity of our backup system under 80%. You should have no problem using all of your storage space, and our business model is designed to sustain full usage from each and every account without issue. If you purchase a 100GB account, you may use the full 100GB without fail. We do not sell storage that we do not have or storage that we think you won't use.
Rsync - Backups can be provisions in as little as 5-10min after opening your account. Rsync greatly improves efficiency when compared to traditional remote backup methods. By synchronizing only those files that have changed since the last backup (CPANEL), using rsync results in large bandwidth savings. When combined with on-the-fly compression, performing daily rsync backup can result in less data transfer than it would take to perform two backups using the .tar.gz method in a given month. Rsync may be used to perform efficient backups of large amounts of data. FTP, FXP, and Samba are supported as well, with an NFS restore option available for instant restoration.
Did you know, that sending backup files to an offline storage device using FTP is 300 to 400% less efficient than Rsync? Did you also know that when sending data via FTP, your transmission is sent in an unencrypted state, uncompressed state which is slow and prone to errors? And you need to FTP all your data over an over, night after night every time you send data via FTP. With Rsync, you send only the data that has changed since the last backup, in an compressed and encrypted state. Are you currently Sending your data to your NOC via FTP? Not very efficient!!
File Access : - You may access your files via SSH, FTP, FXP, Samba, and NFS, 24 hours of a the day, 7 days a week. There are no set limits to the number of times you may access our backup arrays or the number of times you run backups or restores.
Disk Usage : - Your account includes the ability to log into your control panel to view your disk usage at any time at http://backups.efastconsultings.com.
No Transfer Limits : - We don't bill you for bandwidth and there are no limits on the number of times you may access our backup arrays.
Setup : - You will receive full instructions on how to use rsync to backup your data and easy to follow examples on our recommended methods of use, when you open your account.
If you are running cPanel for example, you may use cPanels incremental backup system to backup your /home directory to a second drive then use one of the listed methods to rsync the data to our backup arrays for offline storage. Subsequent, backups to our backup array will only rsync the data that has changed since the last backup.
Multiple Servers Backups: - Backup as many servers as you wish, under different folders names, under your account. The only limiting factor is the amount of disk space purchased, but you may upgrade your disk space at anytime to accommodate for additional space requirements.
Many of our clients backup their entire hard drives. If you disk space can accommodate, you may backup you entire servers hardrive then use an incremental backup to only backup the data that has changed since the last backup.
Only One Drive? - Do you only have one hard drive in your server? That's no problem. Simply specify a directory on your primary drive as a backup directory, then send your data to our storage arrays.
Easy Restores : - Restores can be done via SSH using a NFS mount. Its quick and painless.
Setup Fee : - A one time setup fee of $25.00 is charged for this service. This covers the setup of your account at http://backups.efastconsulting.com. Please allow up to 24hours after signing to get your account. Once your account has been setup, we will send you full instruction on how to access and use your backup service.
